Nestled in the heart of the Laurel Highlands in "America's County" lies Siberians of Ravenwood. With over 200 acres of beautifully wooded land we and our Siberian Huskies and Akitas enjoy hiking and dog sledding through some of the most breathtaking country in Pennsylvania. Siberians of Ravenwood has been in operation since 1999. Having moved to the country we decided to look for a new winter activity that our entire family could enjoy. Being animal lovers all of our lives it just seemed natural to try dog sledding. We were immediately hooked. It didn't take long for the "Potato Chip Syndrome" to take hold of us. Having a natural love of dogs and a college background in Animal Science it was inevitable that our lives would take a turn in the direction of becoming breeders of Siberian Huskies and Akitas.
We believe a working dog is a happy dog. Our Siberian Huskies and Akitas are involved in sledding, conformation, search and rescue and the print and film industry. We have two Siberian Huskies that were in the Walt Disney movie "Eight Below" and an Akita that is trained for Search & Rescue. Our Siberian Huskies and Akitas are bred from top foundations with adherence to the AKC standard. All of the dogs that are in our breeding program have been carefully selected. Only dogs that are genetically sound in body and temperament are used and careful thought and planning goes into each breeding.
We also have some older pups, teens and adults that are available. We often grow some pups out to see how they turn out and then sell the ones that we don't keep...nothing is wrong with them. In fact, they can be lower maintenance then a young pup. Older pups already have their shots (including rabies) and their immune system is stronger and are less likely to "come down with" typical puppy ailments. They are easier to housebreak and crate train because their bladders are more mature. Also, if you are looking for a dog that is show/breeding quality you never know how a puppy will actually turn out. When you buy a teen or young adult you know what you are getting.
